Hi, I posted these pictures on a Machinist forum and they suggested a knife making forum. I found these parts and have no idea what type of machine they go to. They are clean, well made, and weigh about 15 lbs. The small piece is a part of it. Any idea what type of machine they could go to? Any help is greatly appreciated!

i don't really know but if I had to guess they look like part of a roller guide system for a precision assembly line sort of thing.

I would change the tread title to something like "Help Identifying machine parts", and provide any additional information (where you got it at, etc.). The second part is a guide that sits on top of the first, and I wouldn't be surprised if the rollers weren't parts for a grinder - but it's not anything I recognize (there are people far more familiar with bigger 2x72 grinders though) - but that looks like a 4" roller. I'm guessing the reason they sent you here is because it looks like a roller assembly for a smaller grinder than they're using, but I don't know if it's a part that's small enough for the belts that knifemakers run if that makes sense (again, someone like Nathan the Machinist or another maker that has seen more machinery could give you more accurate information).

Here is a picture of a grinder with a similar guide in front of the belt. I would probably lean toward JPR's guess that it's for some kind of precision machining because of the small platen, and the way the pulleys look.

ETA- This is just to give OP an idea of how his two little pieces mate up and what the small piece is for.

ETA2 - Also OP, realize that the actual guide will be a piece of steel that is attached to your 2nd piece, which is actually a bracket.

No knife content so let's move this to Gadgets & Gear.
