Can anyone identify this Spyderco?

On one side of the blade it says: Spyderco M.I.M. 440C and Taiwan on the other. I like it as an EDC because it's so light, but I'm wondering if I'm abusing something that may be collectible.

IMO, don't worry about using it. Most mass-produced and common (relatively) knives, even if discontinued, only have "collector value" if unused and have been kept with the original packaging, paperwork, and accessories. Many knives actually depreciate as the brand loses favor or as newer/better/more interesting items hit the market. So generally speaking, if it's used already, there's no harm in continuing to use it.

And even so... Checking the recent sales on eBay... Many more bidders for that model than there are knives available, indicating a strong demand. But prices for NIB examples are only in the $100-150 range; used ones like yours would worth much less. Could you buy something you liked better for the money? :)

I have the same one, but specially made for "Bever Sport," an outdoors company in Holland. It might actually be a collectible, if some dumbass hadn't broken off the tip. :D :foot:

That was the name? "S"? I remember those, and I couldn't remember the name. I thought they had a cooler name like "SpyderWeb" or something.

Yeah, I also thought it would've been called the Bobulator or something like that.

I bet spiderman carries one.

The Spyderco "Q" was another model with laser-cut blades. The common model currently sells for $100-ish or less (original retail was $45-ish, as I recall); the more rare variations sell for hundreds of dollars.

That's good to know. I generally don't buy knives not to use them and I really like this one because of its super light weight. Do you think Spyderco would service a knife this old? The spacer near the lanyard hole is a little too large and when the blade closes it comes into contact with it causing a dull spot. Otherwise it's a great EDC and it gets a lot of comments.:-)

Probably. I would e-mail them and ask.

I didn't realize the S had a compression lock? I have brand new Q and it has a very odd lock. I always thought the s was the same. That's a nice user. Enjoy it.
