Cool knife! A Benchmade with a Spyderco-like hole (but it's oblong, not round), axis lock, and a great looking utility blade that looks very similar to Tim Wegner's blade design.

Now if BM can only make it with the same great consistant quality that Spyderco achieves, it might be a winner. Is the new Ascent II model? I just searched the Benchmade site for press releases and the only thing that sounds similar is the second generation of the AFCK or the Ascent. But the blade shape is so different that I have to guess this is something altogether different.

What I can't figure out is what the raised portion at the rear of the handle slabs is for...

Where did you get the photo TOTC?

The blade shape reminds me of a Wegner. Where did you get the pic? It's not on Benchmade's website.

The things I have by hearsay about it are that it was cobbled together shortly before SHOT.

The prototype shown has Zytel handles. Production likely would too.

The design is by Mel Pardue.

If produced, it should be the 550.

I think the steel in the prototype is GIN-1 but I dont believe the actual steel for the knife has been decided. I am also unsure as to whether it will actually be produced.

There have been a couple of posts in the Benchmade forum about it as well as the local thread where Mike Turber showed pix of the SHOT show.

equipped.org gave a price guess but I don't remember what it is.

I have heard of no release dates for it.
