Hey guys, I just picked up a Schrade medium stockman for 20 dollars. Seemed well built and looked good. Cool stag handle (I think it's stag. Bone maybe?) Anyway, it was with some other Schrades, old timers, but those were made in China, and I wanted to contribute to our economy, so I got the Uncle Henry. Anyone know what type of steel this is? It doesn't say. All it says is Uncle Henry on the blades. Are these good knives?

Nice score, unless it's a special one, the handles should be "Staglon" which is Delrin jigged to look like Stag.

Uncle Henry's are stainless steel, and should be either 440A or 420HC depending on when it was made.

Great knives!

I agree they are good knives, I have an U.H. LB7, with 420HC. These blades should be the same steel or very close to what you have. It is pretty stain proof, and takes a good edge. Nice score.

mine has 834UH on the main blade. What's that mean? And ys, as I was examining the handle today, I was also thinking it was Delrin, or Staglon, which is good. I actually like Delrin on a working knife. But if anyone could tell me what the 834 stands for, I'd be extremely grateful.

834 is the pattern number. It was known as the Rancher. The Uncle Henry knives were considered to be a step up from the Old Timer line, by the Schrade Management...because of the stainless steel blades and the simulated stag (Staglon) handle material.
