What is this?

Hummhh.
Vielliecht der Deutsch habe grosse geld und lieben der Buck!!
Ich glaube das ist zu viel.

It's sometime unreal the price that things go for on the Bay. Both ways. It only takes two ignorant yahoos with money to burn or a lot of credit on their CC and off that auction goes.

Haebbie/DM, I lived in Bad Kissingen FRG from 6/87 to 2/89 and picked up a good bit a "getting around German." I had to piece those comment in German together with my Army issue manual TM30-306 (German) and TM30-606 (German Phrase Book) both issued November 30, 1943.

It was kind of fun looking through the phrase book. I made me think of my time over there which was a great time for me. I almost stayed in...there was this fraulin named Uma but that's another story.

So no German at Ole Miss or Miss. State for me.

Hi Haebbie! Yes, indeed, I agree that the buyer paid way too much!! This particular model usually sells for about US $125 on ebay. You will note that the buyer appears to be relatively new with a feedback rating of 4, and apparently he and another bidder simply got into a bidding war and sometimes emotions rule over common sense in those cases.

I learned quite a few years ago that alcohol and Ebay don't mix! :D It brings out that ole competitive spirit. Might have been something like that too!

Yes, guys, I remember that my sister bid higher for a sewing machine as it does in the next warehouse. Auction fever!

Flat - Bad Kissingen, I stood there last time in the late seventies. Did you have a good time there? Was she a nice girl, the Fräulein Uma?

Best,
Haebbie

Yes Haebbie Uma was a very nice girl. Actually, nicer than I wanted her to be;)

I really like BK as a town. There was a bar down on the Platz that allowed Americanish so we always had a big time down there. Up the river was a big wooden structure that ran water throught some sort of branches, maybe birch, so people could be breath the air with the mist. Very interesting. I'll see if I can find some more info on this thing so I can explain it better.
Its called the Saline.

But yea, my entire German experiance was a good one except when I couldn't go into a restraunt or bar just because I was an American. Other than that it was a blast.

Hi Flat, did you know that Neil Armstrong, the first man in the moon visited Bad Kissingen in 1970?

The American Garnison was closed in 1994.

If you like: More to Bad Kissingen you can find here: http://www.badkissingen.de/en/

But I get angry when I read that it was prohibited for the American soldiers to visit bars and restaurants. I am very sorry for that.
I would become mad if I couldnt go to the restaurants when I was in Post Falls last year because of my origin.

To the topic: I paid for the unused 560 a few less than 90 USD. But it could be a good deal, the 560 was not a best seller in Germany.

Best,
Haebbie

you all should send auction fever patients thank-you's for pressing up the collector values...hah

I was quite surprised to read that...When my USAFR C-130 squadron visited/flew out of Fliegerhorst Penzing back in the mid-80's, we were welcomed everywhere that I can recall...Even at the sicherungstaffel canteen at Lager Lechfeld...I recall we walked down the road about a click and went into a civilian German "disco"...(my buddy wanted to check out the German frauleins)...No problems...(but I gotta say, American johns got the German cans beat hands down)...

About that 560...Someone just wanted one. That simple. If you see a 186 go for big bucks on eBay, you may very well see me posting a pic of it a week later... :D

...(but I gotta say, American johns got the German cans beat hands down)...

Trax, you oughta see a French can cause the German cans got them beat hands down too.

Maybe the restrictions were dependant on the town, its size, and type of town and the amount of American soldiers relative to the towns population. Bad Kiss is a pretty wealthy town that tries to cater to rich Europeans coming for the spa treatments. A bunch of drunk 20 year old GI's was a problem for them I think. So we'd take a taxi to several other little towns close by that didn't have a Army base and it was OK there.

But it was my first experiance with discrimination directed at me and as a Southerner, I gained some emphathy for others.

End of that topic.
