Hi,

as a new Spirit owner :D I re-read the manual and it states that there are 2 wire cutters. One for thin and soft wire up to 30 HRc and one for hard wire. What is considered soft wire and what is 40 HRc??

thanks

HRC is one of the Rockwell measures of hardness. Most appliance and household wiring is soft wire. Fish hooks, for example, should only be cut with the hard wire cutter.

thanks... so most electrical wires around the house (the soft ones, not the ones in the walls), are called 'soft'... right?

Even the ones in the walls (copper or aluminum) are considered 'soft'.

so what is considered then a hard wire that spirit can handle? steel wire like the one used for brakes on bicycle? or that is too much?

Anything that bends should be soft enough to cut. If it is steel and it bends, use the 'hard wire' notch. If it does NOT bend, steer clear of it, because it will be too hard and it will damage your Spirit.

A sewing needle for instance, will usually snap when you try to bend it. It's too hard to cut. (Sewing pins are softer, okay to use the hard wire notch)

Only copper or aluminum wiring should be cut in the regular soft wire area of your Spirit.

Hope this helps!
Bob
