No brainer here. Chrome Vandadium steel all the way. Easier to sharpen, takes a more wicked edge and holds it a lot longer. The downside is, it stains and rusts easily. I wish they would make the new sowbelly stockman in CV.
Seems to be wrapped up by Danbo and Raptor.
That pesky stainless will sharpen up, but it does not hold near as long as the CV.
I would like to see them go to a better steel if they can swing it without a lot of re-tooling. Even a high carbon with a good consistant heat treat would be a great option even though it would take more maintenance.

Gus,
I also wish to see them go to a better steel. They need a compromise between edge holding & stain resistance. Maybe something like AUS8? Of coarse price will suffer I'm sure.
I just love the fit & finish of these knives. Especially the stag handles.
I always want to give these as gifts but I am hesitant because they are all their SS.
The Case CV is about my favorite factory folder steel. It sharpesn quick, holds an edge decently, and most of all you can get a real toothy edge with it. I dont mind the nice "patina" it takes with time.

I too like their CV but unfortunately I'm one of those folks that can look at it and it will rust. I've carried a couple Case CV pocketknives in the past and rusted them both completely out just by having them in my pocket and sweating. Unlike you folks, I LIKE their stainless. Yeah, it doesn't hold an edge quite as well but it sharpens up every bit as easily as the CV and I don't have to "sweat" the sweat factor.
