What is your fascination, or passion about for knives?

Me I think I got my first pocket knife when I was age five, seem I alway had a knife or two in my pocket, or draw for over sixty years.

Back than every boy had a pocket knife, and most of use tok em to school.

Never recall any incidents of violence at school when I was a kid. Do recall once when I was maybe eleven or twelve using my knife to threaten another kid. Cops came to my hose, asked why, I lifted my shirt, and show them the mark one of the kids who jumped be left with a safety pin.

Cops left saying it was self defense, as the other kid had no cuts or bruises. This was all over a job I had at the local City Park Swimming Pool, one of the other kids wanted, but I got. Think the pay was free swimming, and like fifty cents a shift food credit.

I like knives because, well, sharp. And cool. And I can afford them. Maybe I'd be more about custom roadsters if I were sinfully rich, but I'm a nice kid, so it's knives. :)

The various blade steels fascinate me. I'm an engineer by education, inclination, and experience, so following the metallurgical stuff is fun. My office job doesn't really let me do any hard testing on knives, but I do enjoy just playing with them. And every now and then, I do just slice the crap out of a piece of paper!

For what it's worth, I, too, carried a pocket knife from the grammar school on. I still do. Only now they are much nicer, and far less likely to be a stockman with a broken main blade. :)

Today's proliferation of amazingly good knife designs is nearly intoxicating. I have more than fifty knives already. I hesistate to think how many thousands of dollars tied up in them (though less than what I have tied up in one single Italian racing shotgun--so, perspective).

Some are excellent at slicing. Some are sharpened prybars. And some are also real works of art and I enjoy them all for what they are.

When I was little I always liked "gadget-y" things and for me, knives fell right into that category. More than that though my dad is a colonel in the military and a green beret on top of that while also being on the police department where we live (I'm 21 and a student). So he really got me into knives and guns (have my class A and just bought a ruger .357 magnum). So I guess I really owe the appreciation and fascination to my old man!

Yes, when I was young every boy had a knife. It was a Tom Sawyer sort of thing. It was a rite of passage and meant your father deemed you old enough to be trusted with it. The only issue we ever had was a hippie family's drugged up son threatened me with his switch blade. But, after talking to him ;) he decided he did not want to hurt me after all.

Today, I still carry one everyday and I also found out I have a disease...I can't stop buying them!

I think my first knife was when I was 10-12, I can't remember what it was but it was probably from a little shop in Chinatown. I grew up on power rangers and kung fu movies, so I spent a lot of time making sticks into my "swords" to fight off my cousins and their weapons of choice. My first real purchase didn't come until I was 18, a Kershaw Leek which I still have as my EDC.

I see knives as functional art. They must be designed properly, made from the right stuff, and finished nicely to make it into my gallery.

Carrying one reminds me of mankinds jump from cave tools to space exploration and everything in between. It is the worlds most basic, but undeniably most important tool. I also agree with A.P.F., they are functional art for me too.

I'm a guy. It's the only place wood, leather and steel come together.

When I had my first knife it was called a "jack knife", we were poor. I made stiff to play with using my jack knife. Sling shots, bows & arrows were favorite projects. When they broke, the jack knife was called into service to be a replacement maker.

Honestly I just like playing with diffrent lock mechanisms and sharpening diffrent steels. For me the comparison of one knife to another is the fun of it. But as a result I tend to not keep a knife very long

Same thing here, made some pretty good bows, arrows and sling shots. I even sold a few for some pocket money.

What other tool gets used more day to day than knife? For me none. No matter who you are at some point more than likely alot will need to cut something. Plus with all the different styles and steels i want to try them all and see what i like best. Always trying to find the perfect knife. Only been a superknifenut about a year so there's alot haven't tryed. Someday i'll burn myself out and pick the best out of what i have or suits me best and get rid of some but still trying them out. But i'll always love knives and never lose interest. Will i quit buying so many? Yeah that time is coming soon. Got other things i need and have to do. But will always have a fascination and love for them all.
