I have only had the chance to use the current Kershaw Speed Safe AO. Which ones are better or worse?

I like the Camillus Dominator if only the pivot screw would stop coming loose. Think I'll get some red loctite and try to permanently stop this nonsense. Anybody recommend the blue loctite or is that overdoing it? Thanks.

best locktite for the screw will be the blue--remove and clean screw first, put on small amount of the locktite and adjust to correct position--should be fine when it dries--don't use the red you may never get it apart again in case you need too:eek: :)

I've tried one Kershaw and two SOG's. The Kershaw was pretty much problem free while the SOG's required lubrication and adjusting to fire and lock correctly.

I've got 4 Leeks and a Chive, and find them flawless (one after slightly adjusting the pivot), but haven't compared them to any others. I guess I don't want to mess with success!

I like the one my DDR gunhammer uses with the leaf spring or whatever it is the flips it open. Really smooth with the ball bearings.

Overall I like the Twitch II from SOG the most. Camillus HEAT is also very nice and solid, but is a handful for EDC. I find flipper concepts are much more practical than the assisted thumbstub openers, as overall your hand is in a better to position to change to a proper grip. The Kershaws are alright, nothing spectcular.

I have a Camillus Aftermath and it comes open very fast! You can also scare away the sheeple outside smoking on your lawn.:)

I've only had experience with the kershaws but they worked very well with no problems. My problem is that I don't really see much advantage with the ao's since the ease of operation of the manual opening methods. A stud, flipper,or hole will always work. No need to worry about a broken spring, dirt,or goo, gumming up the works. It's funny how a simple thing like a well placed hole in a blade started a revolution. later, ahgar

AO's are fun and convenient but the easier opening also means a more difficult closing due to spring tension.

I see your point, but if the Kershaw AO breaks, it still operates like a manual folder. And one of the things that I like best about SpeedSafe, is that it helps keep the blade closed.

Well I for one can really appreciate ao's...the arthritis in both my thumbs makes it downright painfull to use a thumbstud. An opening hole is a little better but I really do love my Cam heat with the flipper. I also have an Avalanche that i'm very happy with.

Ditto here! The older I gets the more I appreciate AO!
