comments please on favorite handle material. I am really getting tired of black g-10.

I live in a fairly temperate zone, and so prefer steel handles on many knives, titanium and aluminum is great on a folder. Micarta is also a favorite, and very attractive as well, and I like carbon fiber despite the prevalence of black. G-10 does not even make my list, as I am not fond of the texture at all.

gotta do three

Looks- curly maple (or some burl types)
Function- textured G10 (sorry)
Fondling- polished micarta (with a hint of fabric grain) (i.e. Spydie Viele)

Wood. Two thirds of my fixed blade custom knives have a variety of different kinds of stabilized wood handles/scales: walnut burl, bocote, desert ironwood, tiger maple, maple burl, stab willow root, rosewood, etc. About of third of the collection has stag, bone, mammoth ivory or hippopotamus tooth handles/scales.

Good polished carbon fiber the 3D effect looks great,,matt G10 (green and black) also a good choice IMHO,,and for the dress up folder ivory with defined but stable cracks I think it adds character to the knife.

1 - Ironwood
2 - Oosic
3 - Any burl wood (Amboyna, Maple, Thuya, Etc.)
4 - Stag

I like linen micarta for using knives.

Ive been adding blue and red spacers to my knives with black G10. It adds a little something to the black, bead blast look.
I sold more hunters this season with stabilized wood than any other material. Everyone that has USED their stabilized wood handled knives report that just a little Renaisance wax brings them back to new.
Stag seems to be a thing of the past for some reason.
I just used that last of some WILD carbon fiber that I got from an airboat prop. I wish I could get more. It was the nicest looking carbon fiber I have ever seen! It had sort of a hex shaped weave through it. That would be my favorite handle material of all time.

Stag!
Who said, "nothing will sell a knife as fast as a good piece of stag"?
No, no, no besides me!

Desert Ironwood or Cocobolo.

There are only two types of people; those who understand this, and those who think they do.

My favorites are stag, bone, micarta, and nice pieces of different hardwoods. I would love to work with ivory but alas, the value of my blades have not reached the ivory status yet (maybe soon though).

Elephant Ivory. I just put some from Texas Knife makers supply onto a hand rubbed mirror finish backpacker blade from the late Bob Engnath (sic) anfd I love the feel and subtle look on it when it is polished out!. I wonder if the yellow aging will be even nicer!

Stag!!!
Of the many handmade knives I own, probably 85% are stag. Just remember to wipe them down with baby oil twice a year for 15 minutes then make sure to wipe it all off so it's not slippery.

Lip pearl, followed by Mammoth Ivory, Ivory.

Well as far as a working knife I like Micarta and G-10.The comment about being tired of black g-10,I just bought recently a custom Meerdink with attractively smooth finished green g-10 handles.G-10 comes in blue, red, green and I'm sure other colors. It was finished very nicely almost looked like Micarta. Thanks,RS

Phil,
I love stag! Over the past year if I had two identical knives, one stag, one fancy stabilized wood.....The stag handled knife wouldn't even get handled! The last two orders of wood looked HOT!

When I said stag was a thing of the past, I was talking about what's been in demand as far as MY knives.

At the moment, I want to say green/olive canvas micarta!

It have a rough texture to it even after it has been polished/buffed - it is even grippier when it gets wet with water! Amazing stuff. The bad side it is is kinda UGLY, but I think it looks beautiful!

It has a lizzzzzard like pattern to it.

From an aesthetics point of view, the stag, has always been a classic favorite of mine. Oh....I love the compressed leatehr handle fixed blades as well.

Too much nice stuff out there.

G-10 is BORING, but 100% functional.
