last piece of info i think ill need in order to finalize my next khuk... i can already tell though im getting addicted.. i love these things.

so whats yalls fav khuk and why?

I'm partial to the Ang Khola. I like the lines, and it's one heck of a wood chopper. I have two 18" AK's and one 25". I'm also partial to the M-43. That said, I pretty much like all of them. When I first started looking at HI khukuris, I had no interest in the thinner blades like the sirupati, but they are starting to catch my eye more and more. I'm sure I'll end up with at least one of each by the time I'm done.

AKs started it for me. Noticed the thinner blades and kinda really like those too! Hard to say. The AKs definitely are the king of the choppers but some of the thinner blades like the Sirupatis, Gelbus or Kobras feel so good in the hand,, Not to mention the underpriced Chitlangis(typically a little heavier than the Gelbus),,

18" Sher WWII

Almost a blend between the power of an AK and the slimness of a sirupati. Also, you have a lot of length, so lots of leverage, without being too heavy.

with the scrollwork on the butcap. Has an unsightly notch on the belly from splitting kindling with an unnoticed woodscrew in it. She was my replacement for some godawful tourist model that I overpayed $12 for.

18" WWII, just the right mix of everything.

Second fav is YCS, because of excellent balance and show-off fullers. It would be first but mine are too pretty to feel good using...

She was my first and is an awesome all around do anything khuk. Fast enough to be deadly. Heavy enough to chop. Good reach without being ungainly. Long wood handle allows me to choke up on the blade for lighter cuts or slide my hand back for heavy chopping. I would still like to handle a Gelbu Special but it would have to be a pretty spectacular blade to replace the WWII as my favorite.

My favorite right now is the Movie Model by Bura. Excellent balance and feel. Before that it was the M43, for its beauty and balance. It's still my favorite of the "classic" khukuris.
I have a few khuks (hardly as many as some) for the very reason that I couldn't choose just one. The Chiruwa AK is a workhorse; the M43 works well and is prettier, but larger. The movie model is more weapon oriented. The 25" Sirupati by Sher is excellent, but is more khuk than I need for most chopping jobs.
I can't wait to get the UBE, it looks like a smaller movie model with more heft. If it's a mix between the AK and the movie model, it will be my ideal khuk. :)

my Dui-Chirra 2nd one down...because its the best:eek:
:D

Favorite is my YCS. Great balance, tough and fits my hand perfectly.

Favorite style is the Sirupati. Very fast and very tough. 18" is best. 15" is also good.

Favorite looking is the Movie Model. Beautiful Knives. I have two, one with horn and one with wood handle. Both came scary sharp and look like they would be tremendous weapons. Bought them for looks as opposed to users. Handles are big.

In no particular order. My favorites are this

Sirupati 25" by Sanu

It's like asking which is your favorite child.

My Bura made 18in WW2 for the exact reasons that Silver Fox mentioned. I have more faith in this khuk than my two others or even my brothers 18in AK.

I'm amazed how frequently the 18" WWII is being mentioned!!!

My second favorite would have to be an AK - either the 18" Bura, wood handle, that I sent to Sarge, the dearly-departed horn Chiruwa, or the Shankar 15" horn that I currently have. I looked at all my khuks the other day to hooflex the handles, and it was like falling in love all over again. The Shankar has great lines, and grows on me more every time I look at it.

I also have a BGRS, but somehow I think the full-sized model is better-proportioned. I'll have to get one and see! :D

My comparison is done between the khukuris that I own/have owned:

15 inch BAS (my first)
25 Kobra
20 Ang Khola
22 Kobra
18 WW2

The 18 inch WW2 is my newest aquintance so it is not by habituation that I like it. I even broke it in the first day and still I like it the most.

I like it because of the combination of useful tool and good looks.

It can be used for all the things a khukuri is supposed to be used for. And also it has a broad blade seen from the side but it seems slim when seen from above. This combination is attractive visually speaking for some reason.

Oh, and when you know it was used in WW2 it gets a slight historical aura over itself. I kind of like that too.

The YCS and M43 look more beautiful I must admit. But I have only seen them on pictures.

12" AK great utility/house knife Since I live in the city, and dont have to chop many trees down, its great for the small jobs that pop up on a daily basis, but has enough heart to take on the bigger jobs if it has to.

I have a Chitlangi, an M43, a GRS, and a 16.5" WWII. I haven't been able to find a maker's mark on the WWII, but it is easily my favorite, and my favorite fighting knife on the planet. I have handled lots of HI kuks, having given several away as presents, but this size and model just seems to have the right power and agility I want.
