My favorite opening action in order of preference are thumb studs, butterfly, flipper, and then spydie hole. I don't dislike any of the options and my opinion could be influenced by the quality of the knives I own.

Over all I'm happy with a two handed opener, Buck 112, slip joints, etc. But in real life a stud or hole makes it easier as my off hand is usually holding what needs cutting.

No Emerson wave? (Not my favorite, but it probably belongs on the list)
I added Emerson. I have seen videos of it, but I can't get my mind around how it works. I have also avoided buying them out of concern they would be deemed only weapons with no tool use.

Flippers are cool but my favorite is pulling back on the Axis lock studs
and flicking the knife open. I also like the way the blade drops shut on Axis
lock knives. Tighten the pivot to adjust them which ever way you like.

Years ago I bought several Emersons (13, gentlemen jim, 2 CQC-7s, traveler, and a 10) but quickly learned I wasn’t a fan of the feature. If I opened them normally, the liner would settle in at an acceptable spot on the tang, but if I waved them the liner would end up practically touching the other side.

*Oh yeah lol, I voted Spyderco

Front Flippers, Flippers, Thumb Holes/Groves(which would include the Spydiehole), Buttons(Autos and Button Lock ie Smock) and Pinch/Nail Nick I pretty much won't use anything else.

Button lock. Man do I ever enjoy my Freeman BLF. I figured it would just be another heavy work flipper, but then I got it and hit that button once. Its got a great flipping action and detent, but mashing the button is definitely satisfying.

Edit. Always better with a picture.

Would you consider the flipping the axis lock and flipping with the compression lock two separate opening mechanisms? I can add one or both if you want.

I love the feeling of a good flipper, but I gotta say for the for practical purposes is still hard to beat the good ole' AXIS lock that got me interested in nice knives years ago. Pinch it flick it open, pinch it drop it closed. Hell, on some models depending on the geometry it pretty much falls open without a flick when you depress the lock. A button lock is right there with it with similar functionality, though I have only experienced a couple of those.

1. Axis style lock
2. Flipper
3. Spyder hole
4 thumbstud
( Problem with studs, the stud is not right place or the stud uncomfortable to put pressure on.
