I haven't seen to many traditional folders in Kingwood but I really like the look. I also like the look of cocobolo.

African blackwood.

Osage Orange without a doubt. I saw pictures of it on the web and thought...meh. Then I bought a knife from David Farmer because I wanted to try out his work that just happened to have Osage scales. Now Osage is my favorite wood.

African Blackwood. It's a fascinating wood - the hardest, heaviest and densest wood on earth (72 pounds per cubic foot). It's remarkably fine grained, has a natural oil to it that makes it very moisture resistant in normal use and it's jet-black appearance is beautiful. I have two pocket knives in AB, a 85EO and my single spey Charlow.

Next after AB would be Ebony and Cocobolo.

Koa, though I also like ebony and birch. Not to mention cocobolo, desert ironwood, oak, willow, maple, walnut, and olive.

I like wood.

I'm partial to cocobolo, but just picked up my first knife in cherry and I really like it. Feels very dense and smooth. GEC 48 single-blade.

I love African Blackwood and Ebony. Cocobolo is also nice but I don't like working with it. It can be highly allergenic.

My favorite wood is Amboyna burl, but you don't often see knife handles made with it. Here's a piece I turned some years ago.

IMO the finest koa is simply unmatched. The depth of grain and chatoyance are spectacular.
Desert ironwood, cocobolo, curly maple and zebrawood are beauties as well.

Jeff, you got a picture of some of that koa? I'm not familiar with that. I don't know what 'chatoyance' is, but it must be something nice.

I really don't think I have a favorite wood as there are many spectacular woods. I kind of like the black and white ebony that I have seen on some Bark River knives, but don't have one. I'm really pleased with my oak handled SBJ and cocobolo that I have from GEC. The rosewood is nice too. Oh, and I forgot the walnut on the Charlows.

Note the clip blade version has gone to a new home.

I love bamboo (I have an attachment to China). I find the structure fascinating, but I don't have a folder with scales made from it. I intend to have a custom made at some stage.

The grips on the 1911 are koa. Not the best pic, but enough to give you an idea of its beauty.

I sort of bounce around on a few. Cocobolo & Ironwood are two I really like. Birch is another I like on Puukkos. Recently I've become fascinated by Olive wood. Have an ebauch Opinel on my desk in olive wood that needs to be started/finished.

For me it depends on the knife, some are better suited for one material over another. That said I love African Blackwood, Desert Ironwood and nicely figured Koa.

I think ebony ages the most beautiful way and I like it pretty much... a great wood of incredible hardness and durability

... cocobolo, rosewood, birch, snakewood are all great too... :)
