What is your H.E.S.T. Hiding?

I just revamped my handle contents and thought it would be fun to see what everyone else is stashing. The firesteel is the one that came with my IZULA. After cutting it, I used a bastard (can I say that word?)file to neaten and shape. Note to self, go slowly when getting near the fire stick. The sudden unexpected sparks will scare the hell out of you and make your sphincter slam shut. Also included are 4 Advil, a BandAid and $20.00.

I have a little cash and ferro rod in mine but thanks for reminding me I could get some sudafed in it as well. This rain forest I live in has a gazillion different types of pollen that explode into the atmosphere every spring. That would be great for some of headaches that come from it on some of my hikes.

I think a 3M Steri-Strip would be a better choice than the Band-Aid. A Band-Aid is a Band-Aid but a real Steri-Strip could close a really nasty wound and keep it closed. Money is good, I have some pics around here somewhere of some loot in my HEST grip as well.

Small button compass if you are not going to be batoning with it. If you do, take the compass out so you don't rattle it to the point of damaging it.

Ferro rod with magnesium bar as pictured is a great idea.

Direction-finding

Fire

Wound Closure

Emergency Money for Transportation, etc.

If you look at the limited storage area, that actually gives you a good amount of last-ditch tools for survival.

I would also double up a bunch of dental tape and stick it in there so you'd have cordage as well. That stuff is tough and you can fit a lot in a small space!

Hadn't considered a compass, could definitely come in handy in another location.

I'm thinking about taking an idea from the old M-14. I am thinking about taking a small grinder and making the slots in the screws on one side have a radius in them instead if being flat so they work better with a coin and would be less likely to get wallowed out getting items from the handle. They would still work fine with a flat screw driver.

It fits;)

Not really thought of what to put inside as I usually have my pack with me when carrying the H.E.S.T. But its good to know I could stash something if I wanted to.

LOL, a knife in a knife! Maybe a bit useless, but clever:cool:

I own the HEST but never really understood the concept of the very small hollow handles on this knife? Is this really a good feature? Sorry just IMO this is a great knife but I would like to see solid handles.

ferro rod(the one that came with my izula also cut down-fun aye?)
$20
char cloth

gonna add a steri-strip right now

Well, it's not really useless unless you never use it.

Jimmy Lile's original hollow handle survival knives had a very small folder in the grip, on some models. I think one of them was a very small switchblade, too.

Since my HEST is primarily an Urban Survival knife, mine has cash, phone card info', and emergency phone lists for friends and family.

Yep, I think urban and money go hand in hand. Cash is probably one of the best, if not the best, survival tool to have in an urban environment...for now at least.

"Yo, dawg. I heard you like knives, so I put a knife in your knife so you can cut while you cut."
