What is your LEAST FavoUrite Buck?

Find that the full sized fixed blade Alpha I have somewhere (it's MIA so I can't check the tang for model #) is a nice looking knife, full tang, and sturdy as heck is my second least fav. The only reason for it being a bottom feeder is the lack of a guard. Serious tasks end up messing with the walnut handle. The Alpha folder which has some steel in the liner that acts as a guard rocks.

My least favorite is the Revolution 437T that I bought. I have never really used it and it is the only Buck I have where I wonder "what was I thinking?".

Your mileage may vary...

Speaking only of the Buck's I have owned, without a doubt the Odyssey folder. Worst liner-lock I have ever seen, would fold if you looked at it twice.

Probably the Striders. They have the ergonomics of a brick. The real thing is only slightly better, and not worth the asking price. My BM710 can handle just about anything a Strider can for a fraction of the price (and none of that ugly tiger striping camo crap).

My vote would go for anyone with a guthook:barf: on it, IMHO it is worthless and detracts from the visual aesthetics of the knife. Preston

Yep...I asked Cabela's if they had an Alaskan Alpha folder withOUT the guthook and they said "no". I would get one if there wasn't that shoelace cutter on it!

I'm not a hunter, but is there as much need for a gut hook for skinning and cleaning game as the number of knives with gut hooks would have us believe?  Inquiring minds want to know.

Yeah, what Mike asked. Is it that functional? Did Davey Crockett or Danny Boone have knives with 'em? Sirusly, I am curious about the functional value of the guthook too. (it's my thread and I can steal if I want to :p )

Hey Mike...where ya been? None of my biz, but was kine wonderin' about cha.

Goose.

I have been hunting deer and turkey for a looong time. Never seen a need for a guthook yet.. Maybe I just don't know what I am doing.

Oh yeah.... least favorite... gotta be a 425 or maybe the 2.5 eco

I would have to say my least favorite would be the 317 ‘Trailblazer’. It is just too big to not have any kind of blade lock. A body could loose some fingers inside the carcass of a deer with this thing. It is probably a good thing that it was made by Camillus and not Buck. Still, they bring surprising prices on the Bay so there must be people who don’t agree with me. Maybe they just don’t ever intend to use it.

For me, I would say it was the Juno - it just didn't seem to do anything really well. I just bought the small Bantam and it sort of fell in that same category. Lock back was super stiff, and it was just plain awkward to use, and I have med. small hands.

I never could learn to like the 560 that I had. I guess it is my least favorite.

Well that just goes to show you why Buck carries so many different models. I think the 560 is great! It really feels secure in my hand. I have a nice one, but I'd like to get a "user" that I won't feel guilty carrying on a regular basis.

...My vote has to go along with what Preston said above...That "guthook" on any of the knives...:barf: :barf: ...I've taken deer, geese, ducks, pheasant, quail, squirrel, bunnies (maybe a cow or two)...  :D ...never had a "guthook" and I guess I never needed one...LOL...

I wonder what the statistics at Buck shows regarding "guthook loyalty"??

I have one Buck 278BK Alpha Folding Hunter with the gut-hook, and I have two 279BK Aphas without the gut-hook....

They were all $29 each...what could I say...? ;)

To respond to this thread, well, I can't put my finger on any "least favorite" Bucks that I own. I have 110s, 119s, Alphas, Diamondbacks, and a couple of China-made model 728s, but I can't honestly say that I like any of them less than the others. I had trouble answering that "most favorite Buck" thread, too. ;)

My least favorite is the Buck 430. Got it as a gift. Black plastic oval handle. Looks like a regular knife that was squashed, with a hole for a keyring. 1/2 serrated blade that is supposed to lock but doesn't (it will fold up with moderate hand pressure like a slipjoint with a strong spring). What were they thinking...?

I have to agree with Geo here...My favorite is whatever strikes my fancy at the moment...It might be a rich Water Buffalo scaled 110 with BG-42 blade, or it might be a Cocobolo handled 120 with brass pommel and guard...

What I intend to do with it is a factor also...Do I want to tear it down and rebuild it? Display it? Fondle it? Spear pickles with it?

I'm like a log floating on the current of a river...(anybody see the Tom Cruise remake of "War Of The Worlds"???...awesome girl-on-the-riverbank scene)...bobbing along, sometimes nudging a sandbar and sticking in one place for a while; sometimes rushing to a climactic waterfall...sometimes washing ashore at an undisclosed locale, peacefully laying on the sand... :p

I bet a gut hook knife would be good for spearing pickles! :D Maybe they should rename it pickle hook. ;)

Are there any gut hook folders??? Didn't I see an Alpha in Cabela's with a gut hook...

Question: Is the hook sharpened??? I mean, can you use it to cut shrouds or seatbelts??? Or is it just to pull stringy stuff out, like Darryl pulls bloody sausages out of buttholes...
