What is your opinion about the Supertool 200?

I just thought about getting some input, from my fellow forum members, about the Leatherman Supertool 200.
My multi-tool EDC is the Wave, previously before that the Supertool, but I've been thinking about purchasing the heavier duty Supertool 200 for work use. (While at the same time I would use the Wave for everyday carry non-work use.)

So, what's your opinion??
Thanks for the input.

IMHO the 200 version is a improvement over the original Supertool, the handles are much more comfortable. The levers added to each handle allow another way to unlock the blades, but it is still inconvient. I like the Swisstool better than the Supertool 200, mainly because all of the blades/tools can be opened without unfolding the handles, and the blades are much easier/safer to unlock and close.
The Wave is handier for EDC than the Swiss or Supertool due to it's one hand opening blades and it's lighter weight, but it is not as heavy duty.

I bought a 200... and then went back to my Wave. The 200 was just too darned big to lug around. My toolbox is smaller than a 200. I ended up giving it away as a Christmas present, to a man with VERY large hands. You have to have gorilla hands to use that thing!!!

I carry a ST200 daily on my belt. All other multi-tools feel flimsy next to it. Played with a friend's Wave the other day and it felt anorexic. If you want a heavy duty tool, the 200's the one to get. No matter how hard I try, I can't seem to break the thing.

I have carried a Leatherman SuperTool (original) daily for several years. It is a stout tool and a good workhorse.

In today's marketplace there are superior tools. I am impressed based on limited personal use with the Victorinox Swisstool X. Typical quality you expect from a Victorinox. Vicorinox SwissTool

The Gerber Legend 800 is one that certainly holds promise. It has superior scissors and a good shape. I am a little undecided based on no real world use of its size and overall shape. Gerber Legend 800

I find both tools to be superior to the SuperTool 200.

Sid, thanks for your suggestions but I am a dedicated, hardcore Leatherman fanatic. (Been using Leatherman tools since early 1990.)
I've taken a look at the SAKs and just don't like the multitool in general.
As for Gerber, I bought a Legend 600(I think that was the model) along with the optional tool kit and was not satisfied. I just didn't like the way that the pliers slid out of the handles. I took it back and bought the original Supertool. I carried the Supertool until about the middle of January, when I purchased the Wave and the Wave Tool Adapter Kit. I think that the heavier duty ST200 would be a better choice for work use, with the Wave for non-work use.

Again, thanks for your input.

KBR, I'm a huge fan of the entire line of Leatherman line with the
original Supertool (the 200 didn't ring my bell) at the top, so I'll offer this
neutral advice about multi tools in general.

Do a search on multi tools here and you will find a huge amount of
reading on all the brands and models. Do you homework and then......
buy what's best for you based on YOUR needs not some elses opinion.

Good Luck in your search ,mate.

I've carried the Leatherman Supertool at work for years. I've never considered it "light duty". I work at a landfill and believe me, it gets used HARD every day. Sure, it could be more ergonomic to use but at the price point you can pick one up nowadays, it's a bargain. I've never felt that I needed something "bigger" or more stout.

I have a ST200. It is the only multi-tool I have ever owned or used, so I cannot compare it to anything else.

I enjoy using this thing. The blades lock, and the entire tool is very strong and well built. If you think you are going to need something heavy duty, I would go with this one. If convenience of tool withdrawal is primary, then the Wave is a better choice.

I have heard a couple forumites complain about the screwdrivers on the SwissTool being too soft and simply turning in the head slot when using. I have also read a report somewhere that questioned the tool strength of the SwissTool, particularly the "hard" wire cutter.

Carry the ST 200 daily. Have also had Gerber Multilocks, Swisstools, and just about every Leatherman including the Wave and Pulse.

After my Wave closed up on me on a tough screw and I almost needed stitches, I started looking for a replacement.

The Swisstool is also a fine tool. I prefer pointier pliers, but the Swisstools may work for you. I like the Leatherman screwdrivers, files, and blades better as well.

The Pulse is a good tool as well. Thinking of getting another one for its compactness, though my boss has talked about buying one for each of his techs. My biggest problem with it was the scissors which I did not feel were big enough. I much preferred the Wave/PST scissors.

There are alot of good choices out there. Pick the one that fits your needs best.
