I was wondering what is everyones prefered weight for EDC? My knives range from under 2ounce to 6ounce. Weight is not such a big problem for me but of course this depends on uses and needs, but for me I would prefer 3ounce area for normal EDC.

My two favorites are the Sage1 and Military so I voted in the 3-4oz range. My BG42 military weighs in at 110grams on our scale.
Weight distribution is also a factor. The Military is long and thin so it distributes it's minimal weight even better than a shorter thicker knife, making it even less noticeable.

I voted 3-4 oz. But I never use a clip, so I really like EDC'ing knives that weigh less than that. FYI, I'm carrying a CB Leek right now. It weighs 3.1 oz.

Weight I don't care about, it's form/function.

3-4" blade, no skulls, flames etc, preferred something more plain like a drop point profile. Medium heavy blade as a compromise so it's not easily damaged if I just grab it and do something dumb with it. Solid lockup, mechanism that doesn't care about some pocket lint and grime.

Low rider clip so it isn't obvious what it is if I can actually clip it at the time.

This sounds oddly a lot like the HEST folder ;-) Of course there are many others.

It doesn't really matter to me. I carry an XM-18 sometimes and I can't really tell a difference between that and a small sebenza unless I sit there and take one out.. and then put the other in.. (talking about weight only.)

But.... I can tell a huge difference in the thickness and the real-estate they take up.. The small sebenza just dissapears.. the XM-18 occupies my whole pocket. Now if it weighed around 10 ounces or so then that would be rediculous.. but other then that how much space it takes up come before weight.

If I am in the woods I really don't care about the space in my pocket. But if I am purchasing something in a store it is very hard for me to get to my wallet without scrunching my hand against the XM-18.. I don't even notice the small and large sebenza when I go to grab things out of my pocket.

Voted 3-4.

I figured that that is a good average for what I usually carry. BM 943 at 2.62, Sebenza at 4.7, Izula at ~3.

I voted 6+ because weight really doesn't matter to me much, I carry what I like or need depending on what I got going on.

I voted 4-5 but I don't care too much about weight until the knife gets into the 7 ounce weight area. Unless I'm wearing summer shorts anyway. Most of my knives are in the 4-5 ounce range right now.

Usually depends on what I'm wearing:

If I'm wearing jeans, it doesn't really matter since it's clipped to my pocket. Typically, I like it heavy so around 5-6 oz
If I'm wearing shorts or sweats (running/exercise), I rather it be light, so around 2-4 oz (g10 scaled knives usually work)
If it's dress pants, I really want it to be light, since I can't clip it and it's free floating in my pocket. So around 2-3 oz.

For around-the-house EDC, I tend to prefer light, small knives (1.5-2 oz.) Something that I am never 'reminded' that I am carrying, but is always there when I need it. If I need something bigger or more purpose-built, I'm never too far from them.

For out-and-about EDC, I generally don't go much higher than 3.5 oz for folders. If I feel I might need anything larger than that, I'll bring a fixed blade in addition to the folder.

I guess I'll go with 3-4 oz. :p

I don't really worry about weight much, though. These are just the observations of my current EDCs. Like Incahiker, it's the thickness bothers me most.

I'm one of the people who don't see the weight as being any matter at all - the length, width, thickness matters a lot more.

When people CC handguns 8-12oz. is a blessing and they talk about how it's as though it is not even there. When it's a knife that is 6-8oz., some how it's a huge beast that is a pain in the butt to carry around.

What option should I check off if I really couldn't care less?

I'm more concerned about having an EDC/general use knife that's easy to carry, appropriately discreet, and small enough. Weight is never really a concern for me, whether I'm selecting a knife for work/hard use or edc/light use.

I pay almost no attention to what a knife weighs but voted 5-6 since that's what most of mine seem to run. Form, function, materials, fit and finish are all more important. As Americans we fought and won a world war with a 10lb rifle. Just can't seem to get excited about ounces.

I prefer a heavier knife and so I voted for 6+ ounces. It's not that I don't carry lighter knives as I do carry some as light as 4.5 to 5.5 ounces. Looking over the knives in my regular edc rotation, I see that 7 of the regulars are over 6 ounces and go as heavy as 9+ ounces (Strider AR). I have about 3 that go in the 5 ounce class; BM large Bone Collector, BM AFO II, BM AutoRift(this one is actually 4.8 ounces). I just like the overall solid feel that a heavily constructed knife gives me, and at 220 pounds, I have no real problems with carrying a heavier knife.:D

Anything under 8oz and not less than 2oz. I prefer to have something with substantive heft for heavy cutting.

I don't pay any attention to weight. If the knife is ergonomic and meets my needs, I don't care how much it weighs.
