Alright, I found this plant in the back of my property near the small stream that is back there. I was wondering if anyone knew what it be?

Here's the cluster of it

The small leaves on it are dead.

alright, if I take the bark off, inside is a Styrofoam like substance.

Pressure applied to the Styrofoam stuff.

now, the all important question:
WHAT IT BE??

thanks.

It looks vaguely like Pussywillicus Styrofoamus.

I'm outta here. Heading south on a cheeseburger mission.

Pretty sure its horse weed but need better pics. BTW my great grandpa taught us that if you got stung by nettles to take a hand full of horse weed leaves crumble them up a bit rub it on the nettles it stops hurting right away. Ok after looking on google horse weed isn't what Grandpa told me it was so I will try to figure out the name of what Im calling horse weed.

I know the plant, but I have no idea what it's called, not even in German. I'll look it up tomorrow if you don't have the answer by then.

We've got that around here too. I don't remember what it's called though. I'll look around later and see if I can turn up the name when I get a chance.

It's not much to go on - no leaves, etc. but the closeup with the BK-2 looks like Great Ragweed (Ambrosia trifida). If so, some years, it is a primo material for hand drills (fire). Other years, the stems aren't sturdy enough, and still others, it doesn't reach much size.

Doc

any leaves? even dead ones? better picture of whole stalk, esp, do the "branches" appear in pairs?

looks vaguely like creeping dogbane, which is good for cordage.

but again, tricksy to id without more pix

You failed to mention grandpa was crazier than you and taught you that it was perfectly fine to eat baby poop.

Geezs lick one little old diaper and your forever a ....................................

Bamboo. Get rid of it. There are two species. One that spreads, one that does not. Once it takes a foothold, you are screwed.

Difficult to identify with no leaves or flower heads shown.

I thought poison hemlock at first, but that should have a hollow stem. But don't eat any in case.

Not Sunflower, sunflower has alternate, not opposite, branches.

It's not a grass, so not bamboo.

My guess is Giant Ragweed.

branches are filled with a pithy substance

the branching suggests creeping dogbane (a milkweed), but i can't see evidence of further branching in the photos... there are random bits of leaves and seed pods and other unclear clues. so maybe not.

some of the stems have some color... and pattern, and while i can't see it clearly, there's a suggestion of nodes...

so, next best guess is japanese knotweed.

still need pictures of leaves, even old; and ideally, a much more clear shot of a whole plant with good background, and then closeups ;)

but if "it looks like bamboo but easily breaks and is brittle when dry", japanese knotweed. which is also an edible for a few weeks in the Spring
