What job is too big for Delica 4?

Hi, just wondering what you guys consider misuse when it comes to the Delica 4. Because I bent a branch on a tree about an inch in diameter and while holding it down with one hand, I sliced it with the Delica just pushing the blade down. Am I misusing my knife?

I'd call that, "showing off to bystanders"

push cutting inch thick branches with a 3" folder

The Delica may not be the best tool for cutting branches, but the Delica is a general utility knife and if you are slicing rather than prying or batoning then I don't think it is abusive.

just pushing down sounds right to me.

Wouldn't want to do any chopping with it though.

I imagine that it'd be a pretty tough job cutting down one of the big tress we have around here with a Delica.:D.:D.

I have no idea how the heck you push cut a branch.

It still has to be "green" with high moisture content. When you bend it, this loosens-up the wood fibers and you should be able to push any decent knife through it. This is a common bushcraft technique for saplings up to 4".

Don't try it on dried & aged wood though.

Lashing the Delica to a shaft and trying to kill wild pigs might be too much for the delica. Or Bears.

Trying to kill bears with a delica on a stick would be too much - but probably more a case of too much for the wielder than for the knife. But if you ever wanted to get onto the Darwin award list . . .

For tough materials you generally can't push-cut even if it's really sharp and its short length makes it hard to really have a good slice.
