What keeps frame locks closed, detent ball or something else?

I've looked at pictures of a few different frame locks online here and have a decent idea of how they work. Seems pretty straight forward. Anyhow I was wondering if they use a detent ball with a similar set up to a liner lock. Or if I could work out something more like the backsprings used in slipjoints. If the spring would work, could it be made form TI (6AL4V ) to go along with the rest of the handle

or would it need to be steel?

With the exception of the one Sebenza that was keeping the blade closed just by the pressure of the locking bar pushing against the blade.
