I just made a trade for this Kershaw fixed blade knife, but I have no idea what knife it is. It has a 6 inch blade. I assume that it's made with AUS-8A steel, but that's as far as I've been able to figure out, as the closest I've found in a search on 'Net is the Kershaw 1034 Elk Hunter. Help!

It is AUS 8 steel and it was one of several still in the Kershaw line up as of 1995 discontinued sometime shortly after that, there were several fixed blade models made including the 1029, 1030, 1031, 1032 , 1034 and the 1035, of these only the 1030 remains in production. Yours looks more like a 1035 ( Mooose Hunter) than the 1034, at least from the photo . Was it marked on tang 1034 ? The 1034 had a 5 Inch blade and was 9 3/4 inches overall, the 1035 had a 5 1/2 inch blade and measured 10 1/4 inches . Hope this helps.

Dave,

Thank-you for the reply! I can't see a tang stamp in the (crummy) photo of the knife I'm getting (the photo I posted), but it looks like it just might be a model 1035 "Moose Hunter" from looking at a photo of a 1035 that I located via a Google search, and the description that you provided. The good thing here is that the guy I traded with lives only about 90 miles from me (he's in Auburn, WA and I'm in Aberdeen, WA), so it shouldn't take more than a day or two for it to arrive...He's sending it to me tomorrow at noon.

Many years ago I owned a slightly smaller version of the 1035 (it might have been a 1030), as well as a Kershaw folder of the same design, and they were both VERY solid knives, so I'm really looking forward to owning this 1035.

They are very solid and attractive as well, the folder was the probably the 1050 which is still in production . They also made a 1055 which I believe was a clip point and a smaller version of the 1050 which was the 1056. Enjoy your knife, you don't see those models often these days.

Just a little follow up, the 1035 was originally produced in 1980, and was disc. in 1998. Nice pick up.

I received an email confirmation from the guy that I'm getting this knife from that indeed, it does have 1035 stamped on the tang.:). I should have it tomorrow..

I'm embarrassed to mention just what I traded the guy for this Kershaw 1035, but I will...I traded him a quartz 500m DiveSafe dive watch that is fairly beat-up...(He is totally ok with it, as I emailed him a full description with a good picture.). I received this watch as an "extra" from a trade a few months ago, and I'm actually "into" the watch for $0, so all that this knife is costing me is the $5.26 I spent this morning to ship the watch to him up by Seattle.:D.

What a deal...:).

I received my Kershaw 1035 this morning, and now I have to wonder why Kershaw DC'd this excellent knife. I am VERY impressed with the quality.

What steel is that Thomas?! Good looking stuff there!

Here you go. The 1035 is the top knife.

Maybe it's just camera/photo perspective (things look smaller, the further away from the camera/lens that they are), but my 1035 looks larger than the one pictured in the photo.

BTW...I REALLY like the (short, fat) one on the bottom...What model is that one?

They were all polished AUS-8 blades Steve.

I took it at a bit of an angle making the 1035 smaller than it really is. I can see why you would question it though.

I believe that is the 1032 "Big Skinner". Sweet knife, beautiful series of blades.

Thanks. Looking in the catalog I still see a 1030 which looks like the middle one you show in your pic, and the folding 1050 lockback in that same series in AUS8A. Are both these still available? Boy that folder is big. 8.6 ounces with a 3.75" blade and a 4.75" handle. Kind of nice the way they kept the exact same handle as on the fixed blades in the folder like that.

Has the blade steel remained the same in those?

Yea the 1030 and 1050 are still available for now. We offer up maybe 500 pieces a year on each. The steel has remained the same as far as I know.
