I hope that at least a few of you know about the passaround knives that occur occaisionaly on BF.

My question is this, what would make a good, general, appeal to the masses type Khuk for a passaround? My criteria would be:

Not too big.
Not too fancy, but still looks nice (Probably a blem to keep costs down).
Capable.

I'm thinking a WWII or similar. What do you think?

Thanks,

What do you consider to be "too big?":)

Okay, this one is probably too big...

Dave,

From your choice of the WWII, I'm assuming that this passaround would be targetted at people who aren't very familiar with khuks, for the purpose of letting them try-before-they-buy, or just so they could see that the fuss was all about.

So, I would say that a 16.5" WWII would be a good suggestion. The BAS is a little smaller, but the metalwork (engraving) is more interesting. One of the smaller AKs, 15" or 16.5", would also be good choices. All of these are what I think of as 'typical khuks'.

I made a thread about this not too long ago...there didn't really seem to be a consensus.

BTW, I also figured that a raffle type passround wouldn't work too well. Most people would rather just purchase the khukuri outright.

maybe I should post a poll to see if anyone (outside this forum) would want to do a passaround.

Although the chiruwa may be a somewhat common khuk for H.I. the style isn't that common among the people who use and are the most familiar with the khuks.

15 inch Ak.

In my mind, the Ang Khola is the definitive HI khuk and what most people start with. 15" is also a reasonable size for people that are more accustomed to 3" folders and 6" hunting knives.

After seeing this for a few days I've come to the conclusion that the 18" Baby Ganga Ram Special would be about the epitome for a pass around khuk.
It has the appearance of what most people envision a khuk to look like, it's on the lighter side, not too heavy, not too thick and cuts like a much heavier khuk.
YMMV."D

Every time I get curious about a specific khukuri model I end up buying it to satisfy my curiosity.
