What kind of abuse has your Strider taken?

Hey all,

After reading and re-reading numerous threads here, and talking to several guys I know that own Striders, I've been given the impression that they're pretty much tanks.

So the question I ask is this:

What kind of abuse has your Strider taken? What have you done with it that has harmed other knives, but your Strider has come through unscathed?

I have pried open locked foot lockers, pried open locked windows, opened both vehicles and aircraft like sardine cans, and one of my partners has broken master type locks (the Strider guys have the locks in the "Strider Hall of Fame"). I have also cut through material like flex cuffs, and of course a whole lot of meat :).

I used my AD to seperate a banana from the bunch one time. Not really abusive though.:D

I used the same knife to shave a piece of steel from the corner of a bench top vice. That steel is pretty soft so I then moved onto a hardened steel support for a motorcycle ramp. Neither use seemed to affect the edge at all. At least not in any way I could see. I did this just to see what all the fuss was about. Now I know.

I used my EBLT to cut the corner of one of the cardbaord boxes that HARLEY-DAVIDSONS come in. At first I thought that I missed because I did not feel any drag as the knife cut through the box. These boxes are quite stiff. The knife went through several times "like a hot knife through butter". I had couple other of my mechs try the same thing. Every one was amazed at the lack of effort it took to make the cuts. I then cut up several soda cans. Again, with the exception of tiger stripes being marred, the knife shows no signs of wear and the edge seem as new.

Poped the cherry on my MH the other day. My 203 gunner was issued a ammo can with a steel railroad seal. He could not get his gerber to bust the seal. Whipped out the MH and snap went the seal without any problems.

Jim/aka Knife Thrower--- hey I work at a Harley Dealer also. I am at Tibbys in Springfield MA, where you at? e-mail me!

My EB-LT is hell on those HD boxes the flat grind lends itself to whipping through them suckers!

Ever notice the edge feels sharper after a pass, like it stropps its way through!

Lets see the list is pretty long I have abused the hell out of my Model BT over the last 4 yrs.

Cutting open metal cans
Once camping forgot can opener used the BT for 2 weeks as only opener.

Went on two week trip to Key West Florida camping never cleaned the thing exposed it to salt water pretty much 100% of the time. No rust and it kept a mean edge.

Cut down trees in my back yard and front yard ( I mean BIG trees ) Forgot the front yard tree had nails in it from a sign went through the nails with some cool sparks!

Pried open my neighbors frozen car door last week with my EB-LT )for fun) hey its not my car!

Just basic stuff I guess...

Iv'e used my older MT in Antarctica for 3 winters. Opening frozen cans, cutting ice for in the field cocktails, making snow caves, scraping crud, chopping wood; all in minus 30-70 below zero. It's scratched and mared, but no chips or dings. Iv'e seen many a blade snapped while just sitting there. Those multi tools (Gerber/Leathermans,etc.) were issued to us for a season and were all broken in a week. If it wasn't becoming so Un-PC, the SAR team on the ice would love to carry a Strider. I'm getting tired of convincing them it's a tool and not a sword.

I loaned my AD to a friend to wear around his neck as a cut-out knife when he went hang-gliding (in my ship). He couldn't resist playing with it and dropping it 800 feet to the rocks below. Here's a failing of Striders. They're hard to find when idiots drop them out of hang gliders onto mountainsides. Perhaps a hot pink version is in the works? (How about a "Barbie" Strider? Get the kids started early!) The AD just got scratched up.... And so did my friend after the 3 1/2 hours it took him to find it. Also, the AD was used to pry open four guys who attacked me in Varanasi, India last year. More scratches, but theirs' were a lot worse.

Hey Kshurika,

I've heard you mention the "Indian incident" on several occasions and I must admit... I'm really curious. What actually went down?
