What Kind of Axe is this?

Not sure if it is a cheap axe my dad bought a while back, or a decent one that used to be my granddads. Looks like it used to have some black paint on it, a little surface rust, epoxy on the top of the eye, a few markings as pictured, and they are the only markings I see. Also it was rustier when I found it as I have sharpened and cleaned it up some.

So, any ideas what the axe is??

That the cheeks look to be flat across implies (strongly) that this head is not domestic-made (ie n. American). The epoxy bedding of the head (notice the epoxy ring around the eye) was something the Swedes tinkered with during the 1960s when their export axe industry fell upon hard times.

It says:
Ludell SB350
Made in China.

Sorry for the bad news, but its still an axe. Save it for the stumps and roots or save it as Grandpa's axe.

No worries. Did not have very high expectations to begin with. Didn't think he would be one to go out and buy a real quality axe. If anything I thought it may be an old army axe off a army jeep that the family had. Still has been fun to touch it up.

Btw, i'm quite impressed you were able to identify it at all.

Just because the cheeks are flat doesn't mean it isnt USA made. That was the norm for most USA axes post 1980

How the heck did you decipher that one? Aside from maybe owning one with distinct stamps, yourself.

That's it, I recognized it. I saw the same markings once when I cleaned off a rusty $3 axe head. There is another in a local shop that I see every time that I visit. It's been close to a year and it's still there.
