I have a 1"x30" HF belt sander, a 4"x36" belt & 6" disc HF sander & a 12 speed benchtop HF drill press. Certainly not the most powerfull ones in the world but they sure do work fine for me. They save me a crap load of time when sharpening & reprofiling blades.
You can do an amazing amount of work with the HF 1 x 30 with good belts. I've got and still use two of them. The Craftsman is a huge upgrade and with a couple of easy mods (like making a ceramic platen from a tile and attaching it with epoxy) makes a dandy. Runs a little fast but it's a real grinder. I've seen a few people add a third wheel and run 2 x 72 belts. I use mine just about daily. I recently got a Burr King and it's a pleasure to use.
I got my Work Sharp last night. I ran some kitchen knives thru it and oh my jeez. It didn't take much at all to get them "shaving sharp". I was able to draw them thru paper like butter. Fantastic. I'm going to try my Buck M-9 Bayonet next and see how that goes, them maybe my Estwing ax.
