What kind of bronze do you guys use for guards?

I've been using aluminum bronze, which has a beautiful golden color, but it has some downsides, namely, it's a pain to machine, file, engrave, etc. I'm considering either phosphorous bronze, or silicon bronze. Which has better machining properties, and which doesn't patina as fast?

Thanks,

Phillip, Your complaining about the one that doesn't patina fast. Pretty sure you will find the two you have named will patina faster than the aluminum bronze.

Yes, I know that AB patinas slowest. I'm asking which of the other two are slowest.

I guess it would help to explain what I want it for. I'm making a full tang knife (subhilt). The guards are going to be bronze, and I want to make some loveless bolts to match. Unless you guys know of someone who sells bronze loveless bolts.

Corrosion resistance is not imperative, but it would be nice.

Ok, I've been checking Mcmaster Carr and Online metals. I'm thinking of just sticking with the aluminum bronze for the guard, but I can't find anyone that sells it in 5/16" round for making bolts. I'll guess I'll just have to use something else for the bolts and hope the difference doesn't look too obvious.

Does anyone know where I can get some 1/4" bronze tubing for lanyard holes?

jantz supply sells brass loveless bolts. but regular brass tarnishes pretty quick compared to aluminum bronze, 660 bronze gets dull pretty quick too.
