I've seen a couple of advertising claims that beeswax candles produce more heat than paraffin candles but haven't been able to find any quantitative comparison. I did find the following informatin on heating values:
Butane 46 MJ/kg
Charcoal 33
Diesel 43
Gasoline 44
Kerosene 43
Methanol 22
Paper 15
Paraffin 42
Wood -15

Naturally I'd like to carry a candle that produced the most heat for its weight. Does anyone have the straight dope on this?

Thanks,
dave

Sorry I can't help you but I like your avatar. Are they the best dogs or what?

I tend to prefer the beeswax candles. I like their scent. Also, when using my axe, its good to rub a bit of beeswax on the handle to give extra grip. I don't know if it actually produces more BTU's or not. Ever since I found beeswax 9h candles for my candle lantern, I've gone to using them even though they cost a couple bucks more for a package of them.

Dont want to be out of the loop so here is my. Miss him more then anything...
