I use a lot of micarta but have never used G-10. I use either Devcon, Duro or occasionally, Conap. The latter was recommended by Loveless and Barney in their book so I gave it a try. I believe Sheffield carries Conap. The main thing is to use an epoxy that cures in 90 minutes to 2 hours. The slow cure epoxies are much stronger and give you plenty of time to work with your handle slabs. In my opinion, all three epoxies mentioned above work equally well.

Allen, where can i gt ACCRA-GLASS??? aprox. how much does it cost?

How much pressure do you use to make g-10?
I am making a small press to make some handle scales but i was talking to my boss yesterday and he said i could get the same results by vacuming in between to sheets of steel or glass. He has all the equipment already so we are going to try it in a copuple weeks when he has time to set it up. Do you think that will work?
Has anyone ever used kevlar instead of fiberglass?I am going to try that in a few days to see how it works

Belstain, I don't know if you are intending to hit themarket with any of this stuff, but if you get something that looks promising then I would be happy to put a knife together with your handle material and test it out and post my thoughts here. I would just need two scales worth of material. Well, maybe three, so I can destructively test one of them. As for Accra Glass, I couldn't find it in the MSC catalog, so I don't know where you'd find something like that. Boat supply possibly? Anyway, think about it and let me know...

Acraglass is used on rifles and such so I would check out a local gunsmith or supply shop.

K&G Epoxy is very good also available from K&G Finishing supplies. They also sell dye for the epoxy.

I'm not sure about pressure. I would also test different temperatures to see what effect it has. Pressure and temperature are key elements.

you know, that stuff is pretty cheap, and going to the trouble of making it is going to be a lot more trouble than you think, take it from someone who made surfboards for over twenty years....save yourself a lot of agony and just buy it....
