I've abused this lil guy for years. Probably time for some maintenance but I've never thoroughly cleaned / oiled a knife. Could use general advice but primarily looking to replace this white grease inside the lock spring cavity. What is it? And how should I clean it out?

White grease is usually lithium grease.

Remove the gunk with carb or brake cleaner. Or soak it in warm, soapy water for while.

Yeah clean that crap out and lube with CLP or good quality oil.
Was recommended Finish Line Extreme Fluoro 100% DuPont Teflon Grease. Would that serve the same purpose (the locking spring), or would that be for the pivot bolt only?

I don't even know why you'd have grease between the scale and liner. Probably did it to prevent rust during shipment. I'd clean it out. Use just a tiny amount of 10 wt. Nano oil or KPL pivot lube on the detent ball track and a drop or two between the blade and bearings.

Replace the grease with grease. Oil is not going to do the job the grease was there for. The grease is initially put there to stop the torsion bar from rattling.
This is what I assumed but questioning that due to comments from mauser & blade.

Yup. Lithium grease. rycen rycen and S SuzukiGS750EZ are 100% correct. That grease is to stop the torsion bar from rattling.

You can clean it out with a paper towel (or 3) and then wash with soap and water. Replace grease…good to go.

Here's a very good reason to use grease.
That little thin spring is made of carbon (not stainless) steel. It's in a pocket that can trap moisture.
It doesn't take much rust to eat through a tiny little wire spring.
So, leave the grease in there, or replace it with grease.

Looks like food grade gease that I've seen at work. I've never used the grease but I randomly sprayed a bali with food grade spray stuff. It flipped so nice after. Better than rem or kpl for sure. I don't know that it matters what you put in there. Different based greases will kind of destroy each other. Just make sure you clean out the old stuff good.
