What kind of head is this?

Any one familiar with this type of axe/hatchet head could give me any background?

Possibly some kind of shepard's axe. All I have are pictures; the socket appears to be blind and that strikes me as unusual and kind of counter-intuitive.
Thanks,
Doug

Yeah, That's what I thought too so I did a search for Frank or Gaelic axe shapes but couldn't come up with anything clearly like this so I'm stumped if you guys don't see anything familiar.
Thx

well I know i've seen H&B forge have french style axes shaped almost exactly like the one in your picture, but I can vouch for their historical accuracy

Except for the blind socket, it does resemble a francisca. Perhaps the socket hasn't been opened yet. How thick is the metal at the top of the socket?

I've seen them at Faires and Rendezvous. Ragweed sells a very similar as the French Lady hawk. H&B, Hanwei and most other replica Franciscia axes I've seen are alot more curvy, sleeker; earlier pattern I figure. These throw well.JMHO...
