I found this knife in a thrift shop, and I really like the knife, except for the whole german reproduction part. Can anyone help me identify what style of knife this is?

To fold it you rotate the blade into the covering and fold the knife in half so the covering is inside the hole in the handle.

Look up Flim Flam knife or Dowell's funny folder. AG Russell makes high grade ones, cheaper ones on Ebay are sold under the search term "flip knife". Smith and Wesson also put out a nice one in the 80's, much higher quality than their knives now.

Here's the 2 S & W versions -

"Flim Flam Knife" is a much older term, almost everyone calls them "funny folders" now.

It seems like it is a bit out of my price range right now. I really like the boot knife stye. I suppose I'll periodically check in and see if anything pops up on ebay.

Ah, makes sense, thanks tltt. Flip flop also seems like a name for the knife.

Sorry, that is NOT a reproduction, it is an outright fake

Oh, I'd never seen something like this before, I want one. Well, specifically, I want A.G.'s version, not the one sporting the Nazi emblems. I may have to pick up one of the funny folders sometime.

I have to agree. Knives like that were never issued to soldiers. It's one of those chinese uber nazi items. There are a lot of diffrent knives like that who get sold under "repro" name.

Fred Perrin makes a similar knife.

paratrooper knife.

Fred Perrin makes a similar knife.

I believe that both the paratrooper and Fred Perrin knives only folding along one axis instead of also swinging along a secondary perpendicular axis.

In addition to A.G. Russel, they only time i have seen this design is a very cheap knife made by Colt called the Trooper Knife and one of the mail order catalog companies used to market it as a 'picnic" knife.

Have generally heard it referred to as a swing (gate) knife (not to be confused with the Explorer Swinglock from the 1980's.

I really like the A.G. Russell version. :love-struck:

That "paratrooper" knife is another piece of fantasy, made (made up) in England during the 60s. Never even existed during the 40s and has never been issued.

Here is an example I used to own. - pure junk.
