Hi, anybody recognize this knife? It just says "GW" (GW Stone?" on one side and Made in USA on the other. I guess it's a fighting knife with a bottle opener, for drinks after battle maybe.

Looks life a 50 tear old fishing knife with scaler serrations on blade, stacked leather handle & lanyard ring for retention during use around the water. Great shape for such vintage & you have the sheath. Thank you for showing it.

Well, great comb then, Fishing and Drinking go great together. Thanks for the reply.

Your knife is a WWII era hunting knife made by E.G. Waterman & Co. In your knife the "E" is not visible. There is not much info about them, only that two of their models were made for the GIs during WWII and other models were advertised and sold to the general public. The army model had a grooved wooden handle or stacked leather (as yours have) and pretty much all of them had the bottle opener on the blade. I read a piece in which was said that they were sold as stain-less and impossible to shatter. This last feature appears to be true because the steel of the knife is very soft, so you can bend it in two without breaking it... which is not necessarily an advantage.
Here is a link to an old add (second picture):

And here is a link to a piece about them in another forum:

Wow I gave up on getting a response, figured everyone thought I was trying to break "the golden rule" thanks for the info. I like the knife, the size and feel anyway, have not sharpened it yet or tried to fold it in half but for $10 how can I go wrong. Thanks for the info.
