Hi!

I have this cheap knife that is made in china so i am sure it is a replica of another knife. Someone once told me that it is a German type knife but he was not sure.

What do you guys think?

In the closed position it is 8.5 inches overall and in the open position it is 12 inches overall.

The knife is a modern representation of a folding Bowie knife. Examples can be found going back to the mid 19th century. There was even an Italian Bayonet (model 1938) for the Carcano rifle made along the same lines.

Hereis a picture of the bayonet:

By pressing the button just below the guard you can make the handle fold, converting it into a small utility knife.

I've got the German equivalent of that knife that I bought 40 years ago. Mine has a stag handle and I think it was imported by Hoffritz. It makes a great combination camp and hunting knife. For most tasks I use it folded. When I need some reach I open up the blade to the full length. The double guard folds out of the way in the shorter position so it is not really a problem. If yours is cheaply made I would be primarily concerned with how strong the lock is built.

The locking mechanism is very similar to the ones used on Hubertus brand automatic knives (which're made in Germany). That may be what your friend's thinking of.
