What kind of knives do the makers make for themselves?

OK, I am curious. I was trying to imagine what kind of knives do the knifemakers make for themselves.

What do these guys look for? What do they want in their own knife?

So they go for convex grind, flat grind, hollow grind, and why that particular grind?

What type of metal would they use? Why do they pick that kind of metal?

How long would that blade be? Do they want something fancy? Personally, I doubt that. I have this feeling that most knifemakers go for functionality. They will always make the kind of knife that works for them 100 per cent of the time. And they know they can depend on the knife 110 per cent of the time.

So, what kind of knife would that be? I guess it would depend on the individual and what kind of purposes he intends to use the knife for.

Any ideas, guys?

uhh, Quietstorm, look down a few threads. This original thread was a double post, question has been answered by a few of us. :)

thanks for setting the record straight, etp777. And I actually wondered why noone answered golok's question. ;)

Actually, I remember distinctly that I made only one such post. I wonder how did this happen?

Maybe, it occurred when the server shifted to a new location and then was reactivated!

Actually I'm going to make myself a forged custom parmesan chees knife. You know, one of those with short, snubby leaf blade and pommel like handle :D
I was about to buy one from Berti cutlery, which makes great forged horn-handled cutlery when I though "I want a forged parmesan cheese knife but... hey! Wait a moment, my hobby is making knives!"
:D

The knives I make for myself are the same as the ones I sell to my customers! If I thought there were improvements to be made, I'd change the model across the board.
