What kind of leather for strops

Hi,
Im trying to making a good leather strop.
I found some leather today
Some is leather from a furniture store and the other place I got some is from a really old leather jacket.
I'm going to glue them to a piece of oak wood for now.
Once I find out what leather works best Im going to get a flat piece of granit (we have lots of that around here)and glue a piece of leather to that.

Is anyone else making strops?
Is one type of leather better then any other?
