I just read that foam backed computer mouse pads are the way to go.
The mouse pad i have is about 2mm thick and has a hard plastic kind of cover to it. Am i looking for the thicker foam ones? What do u use?

all mousepads are not the same density and some are too soft for convexing an edge. try a phonebook instead ;).

I started out with a mousepad but didn't like it. I've switched to using 1/8" thick leather for backing. Works just fine for me.

I like National Geographic as a "mouse pad" in the context of convexing. They give a little but they're pretty hard and will create very subtle convexing. A foam mouse pad creates a much smaller diameter or whatever.

Check out the JRE EMS sharpening block, it was made for convex sharpening.
