Being very practical people, with a very close knit community, who tend to stay close to home, I'm sure they tend to have the same taste and desire for tools, I wonder what kind of pocket knife is most popular among them.

Given their lifestyle I'm not expecting an answer from any Amish people, except maybe some kid on Rumspringa. :)

An odd yet excellent question. I'm now wondering myself.
Suppose I could ride up to Lancaster and ask them. Might be worth the drive (assuming I can get the wife's Ok).
Don't think they would mind that simple question being asked. I think it would be rather telling in the quality vs price arena.

I've only ever seen them use common commercial knives Stockman and trapper type stuff from old timer and buck. Stuff commonly available at your local hardware store.

Yoy will most likely find them carrying whatever is locally available.

:D LOL!!! you never know...blade forums might come in snail mail form too :p

Throw the horse over the fence some hay. Since I got that out of my system,I've only once seen an Amish man with a knife out and it looked to be a Case or other non descript slip-joint with the blade blackened from tomato juice acidity.tom.

"What kind of pocketknife do the Amish men carry"
saw that and i was expecting a punchline......

I live near an amish community in Kidron, Ohio, and I go to their hardware store occasionally to purchase tools. They have some really nice displays of Case knives, but there are only one two missing from the display. The cheaper Case working knives are popular, as are the Old Timer and Buck knives. The amish hardware stores always seem to turn into a tourist attraction around here. So I believe the higher end Case knives are there for the "I wanna be amish for a day" people who come from the city to visit. I don't see an amish guy using a pearl handled Case trapper with polished blades to scrape some crap off of his horse's hoof. They are extremely practical, and "no-frills" type people.

buy the amish a sebenza

It's my understanding that they subscribe to "spend now to save money in the long run" and buying a sebenza may seem quite reasonable. I think the problem is that without the internet or knife magazines they probably haven't heard, seen or used one.

I may just make it a goal in life to someday give a Sebenza to an Amish gentleman. Now, at which web site do you think they hang out?

Sort of unrelated, but maybe not: I've always had a desire to furnish high quality knives that are self-maintainable to the brave people who feel called to bring the Gospel to 3rd world countries. We have several missionaries who visit our church yearly asking for assistance with their work, and I always imagine that something like a good multi-tool, or Sebenza type knife would serve them more than a measly one-time cash donation.

Anyone else?

Well sebenza and $200 got me over the uganda border which I was cought crossing illegaly. It saved me unpleasant talks with WHO why was I within proximities of certain ebola infested village.

Country Knives is near Lancaster PA, within horse and buggy distance, I've sent an email let's see if they answer.

My answer has to be I don't know. But I once ran into a Amish guy who made fixed blade knives from old files. I believe he was a blacksmith.
