What kind of questions you ask knifemakers at knife shows?

I was just wondering what happens when a knife collector meets a knifemaker at one of the numerous knife shows spread throughout the year.

"Hello, how do you do?" does not count.
Perhaps, something like "how long did you spend making this particular one?" Or, "how many rejects before you finally made this one as beautiful as it is right now?"

And the conversation goes on for 30 minutes until you have exhausted all your arsenal of questions or all the contents of your wallet, whichever comes first. :D :D

I've never been to a knife show :(
If anyone knows of a knife show close to me please let me know about it.

OK, I get to tell a story. I was at a gun show several years ago and a guy had a cord wrapped, tanto grind fixed blade. The grinds where very uneven and there was writing on the blades that looked like grease pencil markings from the steel supplier. I asked him what the steel was and he said ATS-34, I asked what the heat treat schedule was and he wouldn't answer me. I assume he was either a liar or he thought that I was a PIA.

A different time I asked another maker that I was unfamiliar with the same questions, and he said 440C, and told me how he heat treated and why and why he chose the steel he did etc.

So, If you are unfamiliar with the maker, I think those questions are good to start out with.
