What kind of steel do I want when I shop for a PM2?

S30V is pretty good. PM2 has been made in a lot of different steels, and they will cost you double or triple because none of them are being produced at this time.

If you haven't tried one yet I'd get an S30V and see how you like it. If you're down with paying double or triple for the Steel upgrade then you can consider a slew of options...

I don't think I have the money to try out and purchase another one if I like it.

You can find them on the exchange for a little over $100 bucks usually. Sprint runs will cost you more than double the price of the standard s30v versions. If you can touch up the blade s30v will serve you extremely well. A higher end steel will go longer before you need to sharpen, and not much more. If you dont think you will have cash for another one, go with s30v, it will serve you well and not break the bank.

What the others are saying is that the PM2 comes standard with S30v steel. Any other steel option was a sprint run or dealer exclusive and you won't find them in stock anywhere. This means you'll have to use the secondary market, where sprint run PM2s go for 300-500$.

CS had a small batch in yesterday (for a lot less than mentioned above) but I'm sure they're gone by now.

He usually posts on FB when they come in but be ready to jump quick. They're usually gone within 30 minutes.

The discontinued sprint runs of the PM2 in different steel types are generally very expensive. The PM2 is a very popular knife so limited edition versions fetch a lot on the secondary market even if they aren't necessarily worth the extra cost. A sprint PM2 could easily run you from $200 to 350 and I've even seen some going for 500+ for the very rare ones. Awesome knife and I love mine, but I'm not paying CRK money for a PM2, no way. The CPM-S30V that comes on the standard model is very good and will take a nice edge, you will be happy with that if it's your first.

CS?? I don't belong to FB.

Well at least I know what I'm looking for, thanks to you all, so it's just a matter of having patience and looking around.

If you try the S30V and like it then keep it and be happy. If you find yourself still wanting a super steel version you can always sell your S30V.

Get the S30V, from a functional standpoint the only way I'd recommend a sprint run is if you get them at pre-order prices, and even then you're paying a premium just to have a limited edition. I don't consider $180 for S35V to be a good price compared to $110 for S30V for the same knife with the same tolerances, and the prices on the secondary market are even higher.
