Hello,
newbie here. hope this is the right place for this...Ok here's the question. What kind of steel should I make polearms out of? Glaives, halberds, spears, ect.
Should it be spring steel or mild steel or what?

Also, will I need a belt sander to make these things, or is that only needed for knives and such? would a hand grinder, and benchtop grinder be sufficient?
Thankyou very much!

As far as the question about the steel for the polearms goes, If your making them for show, I would say you could make them out of just about anything as long as it looks nice, or you can make it look nice. If you are going to make these as usable weapons, I would suggest 5160 (spring steel) for the spears, for the other ones, (glaives, halbreds) I would suggest sawblade (L6 steel) for the job. Both of these are fairly easy to come by, so it shouldnt be to much of an issue getting ahold of some. Hope this info helps.

I agree with Rokstedy on the the steels. And a good grinder. Make sure you get a good assortment of belts in low to high grits for shaping and finishing.
