Hi guys.
As the title says, what kind of steel is CPM-3V?
It's not stainless, so i imagine that it's tool steel.
But i can't find any sites that confirms this.

Its a high alloy tool steel.

CPM 3V is a high toughness, wear-resistant tool steel made by the Crucible Particle Metallurgy process.

Straight from the Crucible site.

Cold work tool steel

It's also not a simple carbon steel, and obviously not stainless. An alloy steel, low or medium I think.

I'm not sure what steel that is, but 3v does not have 3.5 percent carbon. It has less than one, hence the toughness.

It's not that easy to categorize steels.
There are tool steels with various amounts of chromium for instance, some that are above the number that signifies stainless steel and some that are below. Among stainless stainless tool steels there is a wide range of chromium contents.

3V has .8% Carbon. Just look on Crucible Industries, "Our products" area of their website.

It is a fantastic knife steel!! Tough, great edge stability and edge durability, easy to sharpen, gets very sharp, good edge holding, and good corrosion resistance!!

With the right heat treatment and blade geometry, it is one of the best overall steels for knives. IMHO

You can use it for folders, neck knives, all the way up to machetes and swords. It will not disappoint!
