What kind of steel is it????

My father gave me one of his old knives. As a small child in the early /mid 70's I remember my father wearing it on hunting trips. It is an old large Ka-Bar folder (two blades)with a stag handle. On the side of the blade is stamped Ka-Bar 1184 USA. I am assuming that the 1184 is the type of steel??? If so, what type of steel is it, or what is it similar to?

1184 is the model#. It is 1095, or 440a.
