Truth be told, as a sheath maker I wish I had a setup like Dave's. They have to be easier to find than what I'm doing
This is a system I've been using for about 5-6 years but every 3-4 blades I buy I need to revamp a drawer here and there. I figure I can expand it to hold another 30-40 knives but then will need to look into something bigger. I can fit AK-47 or smaller diagonally in a drawer but currently don't have room for the F-16 so it's riding a wall magnet at the moment
Right now I have something like 300 fixed blades stored in it, but anywhere from 15-20 out at any given time for sheath making or carry, so they shift around as I work through what's needed out vs stored. If I needed to get all of my fixed blades in here at this point I'd be screwed
Folders are a different system and this is after all the Busse forum
The top section is stacked with Poly down spout. I have a design in mind to split these with a horizontal divider when the time comes. Mostly longer knives are stored up top. The 1" deep drawers have knives just laying on their sides like any tool in a toolbox.
For the deeper drawers I bought Trex composite deck 2x4 wraps and cut them into U shapes which allows the knives to stand partly on edge and maximizes the vertical space in the drawer.
Finally on the deepest "tool drawer" I cut two sizes of PVC and stuck as many in there upright as I could. I lined the bottom of the drawer with very dense 3/4" rubber to protect the tips. This is great storage but only really works for knives in the 6-8" range. Too small and they drop out of sight in the PVC and are hard to find, which is a design flaw.
Hope this helps give someone ideas
