Hi Everybody,
My name is Brian, if you hadnt gathered, and i am fairly new to the forum but have been a knife nut since i can remember. I have recently started to mess around with sort of half-assed knife making aka ive found a few old knives or tools or just random pieces of metal and reshaping them and re-handling them and making leather sheaths for them, again out of found things. So far i have really just messed with reprofiling and rehandling some old fixed blades that i didnt mind experimenting with like gerber from wal-mart, and an old hickory that i saved from the trash at work that has become my new bushcrafter, and i am currently working on a kiridashi type thing that im making from the blade off of some old loppers, again that were destined for the trash. So i was wondering if anybody else on here just goes around seeing things and thinking "man i wonder if i could make a cool little knife out of that?" and if so what have you done this with? id be very interested to see what kind of recycling people have done. sorry no pics of mine yet but once i figure out how those work on here ill put some up. thanks.

One of the first knives I "made" as a kid 50+ yrs ago was from a carbon steel putty knife.Used files and sandpaper to shape the blade and left the original handle on it. Carried and used it for yrs. Found it in a box of junk at my Mom's a few yrs ago. Still sharp--KV
