What kind of washers come with the Buck/Mayo?

I see, thanks for the reply Tom. I have another question. How do you guys decide what kind of washers is used on the folders? Have you guys considered using bronze washers? I have knives with bronze washers and knives with teflon washers and it appears to me that the bronze washers are sturdier and have a smoother feel to it. I'm not saying teflon washers are not good but it seems to me that maybe bronze washers may have been a better choice? Thanks

Manji, while I cannot speak for Tom or any other knifemaker, I can testify that the Buck/Mayo with teflon washers and Militec grease is VERY smooth. In fact, the only roughness in the action comes from the ball bearing riding over the base of the blade. This is very minor and only because the blade is not polished here.

well, i just picked up a buck mayo today and it is indeed smooth. However, i still think that bronze washers would have been better. The thing is teflon tends to absorb dirt, oil and gunk more then bronze washers. Therefore, after awhile the action feels gritty and you have to keep oiling it to keep it smooth. This is how it is with my other folders with teflon washers (these knives are of the same comparable quality and price range of the buck mayo)

The bronze washers on my Buck Odysseys work great.

The Buck/Mayo looks really nice. Maybe I'll buy one.

It wouldnt be much trouble to change out your washers for bronze ones. I have done EXTENSIVE testing with ever type of washer known to man..............and I ended up using the teflon ones. Steve Ryan uses them too. Bronze washers have problems too........and once they get a burr or get bent your knife stops working right.

I see, I know that no washer is perfect and I guess it wouldnt be too hard to change them out for bronze washers at all. And since you say that you've chosen teflon washers after extensive testing then thats good enough for me. BTW good job on an excellent knife!
