What kind of wood is this

I got a small piece of wood from a friend at work, I have no idea what wood it is, but I love it and want to buy more.
Can anyone identify the darker wood on this knife?

I'm guessing you made the knife... Was it soft, hard or somewhere in the middle??? Endless possibilities honestly though.....harder I'd guess maybe an ironwood or walnut. A.picture of the block would have been better.. Sometimes grain can help. Best of luck.
 
This is the closest thing I have to a shot of the block if wood, I dont yet have a feel for knowing how hard wood is. It all feels pretty hard to me
