I found this today. About a year ago I also found similar at the base of a tree, on a rock in a mound. What is it? I've seen bear scar that looks like that, but I've never seen a bear in the woods nor did I know they were in such a rural area, if that is so.

Holy crap! When you asked 'What kinda turd?', I didn't think you REALLY meant TURD! Good thing lunch is over.

You should have done a "Best Caption" post.
The things that came to my m ind are:

1. The bigfeet in your AO don't seem to chew their food as well as ours do....
2. I made some pemmican, here, try some.....

Something that ate something that did not agree with the thing doing the eating??

Something big?

Either way it is too big and probably has a bad disposition to find out.

Here is what I've seen in the woods, none of which I believe would make that.

-deer
-turkey
-rabbit
-coyote
-fisher cat
-raccoon
-opossum
-hawk
-owl

All those animals have distinctive "turds" if you will, that just looks like it puked out its hind end.

Most likely bear . They've been expanding their range so they will be found where they haven' been in the past. They do love berries of all kinds and especially love bird seed !

That's what i was thinking! Somebody has a tree stand setup a bit down the path with a feed block and a hanging pellet feeder, but nothing like what i see in that stuff. I'd be very suprised if it were bear, i mean nothing is impossible, but i've been traveling those woods for about 4 years now and never seen a sign or trace of bear life. There are a ton of woods, but they're lined by a highway on the north/north east, houses on the east, south east, south, and south west side.

I'd vote raccoon. You have not shown scale in the picture, so it is a bit difficult to discern how big the animal would need to be to produce what you have pictured.

i thought bear at first, but then raccoon, due to area and size. I tried for detail more than scale, but i'd say that blob is about the size of a medium hand. i did a search on google images before posting here, and i figured raccoon as well. Figured i'd post here and get opinions.

Raccoon, they are experts at taking a dump on a log. In corn country they leave corn-pies on logs. Those stinkers love berries and sweets but they must not digest it well so they gorge on the good stuff then wha-hoo.......poop on a log.

There must be one, two or twenty that live up in this one tree, because it looks like somebody cleans up after their dog and piles it under this tree, piles and piles of the stuff pictured above. I sat next to it one day while hunting and didn't even notice it at first. I was actually kind of impressed a wild animal could create such a work of art. (different tree than the one pictures, the one pictures isn't standing anymore.

Sniff-sniff. Smack-smack. Yep, coon eating muscadines. The seeds don't digest and the unchewed, unripe fruit won't digest. All the black goo is digested ripe ones.

Its usually the second thing they do when they come out of the den, shake the fleas off there head, poop and head out.

Lol. Ill try and get a pic of the big pile if anyone's interested!

Taste it and see if I am right about the muscadines. Or sniff it if you are a wimp afraid of natural survival foods. You will soon see persimmons and their seeds in there.
