I recently had to buy a knife and so i came here for advice

i was surprised at the amount of knife enthusiasts there so I'm just wondering what everyone uses their knives for? :)

Strings, paper & plastice bags, nylon wire ties, whittling on 2x4s, cutting up plastic jugs, fruits, meat, auto belts. What ever needs cutting. I have always carried a knife on me since about the 5th grade, no use quitting now.

Plastic packaging (!!!) , cardboard boxes, usually containing new knives :p and lots of other stuff.

I usually carry a small micarta Sebenza.

My Victorinox Alox Soldier sees the bulk of my cutting. Makes quick work for lunch chores.

Matador-

apples, oranges, bags of veggies, boxes, grass around the weed wacker, scrape and cut grass from the mower deck, open the box containing my new vice, zip tie, those evil clamshell plastic packages:mad:
all done by a case yellow sodbuster (cleaning between activities of course:eek:)
cuttin all kinds o' stuff

ps hold on to your credit card if you get the sickness:D

I cut every thing rope, rubber, plastic, cloth, scrape glass and steel, dirt, wood and any thing else I can find an excuse to use my knife for.

I rarely use mine other than at work, where I regularly need to open coffee packs and cut plastic tubing.

Most of my knives are purchased for the sole intent of lookin' at and fondling. ;)

So what did you get? And what do you plan to use it for?
After you've had some time to evaluate it's quality and usefulness, feel free to post a writeup in the Knife Reviews and Testing forum section.

Loose strings, packages, wood, zip ties, paper, envelopes, cardboard, rope....
and occasionally accidentally myself

My knife is just for self defense, unless I absolutely need to cut something and I cannot find another knife around.

Cutting free it's brethen from other boxes.....

Haha, I recently ordered a knife from KnifeWorks, and you literally had to already have a knife to get into the package!

I use my knife to cut down/open boxes, cut tape, cut strings 'n' things, as well as anything else that gets in my way - I mean, anything that requires a knife.

LOL! I make that joke every time a new knife shipment arrives. "If only I had a knife to open this with." Wife gives me a hard time for keeping my knives in mint condition, then not having one to use when necessary. :D
