What knife did you pay to much for?

I bought a Spyderco Navigator a few weeks ago.

At that time I paid a little more for it then what I could have gotten it for on the interent.

I did not care at the time because the knife was in my hand and I just had to leave the store with it, so i paid the extra dollars for it.

Well today someone posted in the spyderco part of BF a website that has the navigator really cheap.

Now I feel really bad that I paid so much for a navigator. I paid over twice what I could have gotten one for today @#&*!#

Please help me feel better by telling me about the knife you paid to much for :)

There are others that have paid to much for a knife, right?
God I hope it's not just me.....

Sure, we all do at one time or another. Thats one reason I like the internet, it gives you time to consider something before buying it and no pressure from a salesman. Back a couple of years ago I saw a Remington Bullet knife in a local Phoenix cutlery store and having seen what the older Bullets were going for on E-Bay I thought why not and ended up paying full retail. Later when I checked on E-Bay the same knife was going for less than half of full retail and nobody was bidding on it at all. So I ended up paying over $80 for a knife that I eventually sold for $35.

My CRKTs.... I don't know where to get below retail.

Murphy's law. 10 minutes after I buy something, I find one posted on the 'net for less.

At least it was a production knife. There are worse tranactions out there with customs....

You had the Spydie in your hand, you paid for it and walked out with it. If you had ordered it off the internet, although you may have paid less, you would have paid shipping, and had to wait at least the shipping time, provided they had it in stock. I wouldnt feel terrible about paying more for something than I had to, esp if I can have it right now, and I plan on using it.

Pahl, I got you whipped for sure, there's been so many... lets see:

I payed $120 for a folder that later I found out was $60.

I payed almost $130 for a BM 812 small when they first came out from the factory 'cause I had to have it, shortly thereafter it was $70 or less.

I payed $85 for a Jot Kahlsa spyderco that was on sale later for $40.

I bought an CRKT S2 for $55 that was later $25.

I payed $50 for a small fixed blade that I found later for $18.

I payed $20 for a POS folder that should have been <$5.

Most of those deals occurred before I was able to show some restraint and wait for better deals.

Hope that helps. ;)

Nope. . .and at this very minute. . .it looks as if only 6 of you have over-paid for a blade ! :p

I paid considerably more for my Spyderco Military at a local knife store than it can be gotten for off the net. However, I feel bad about going to a store to handle a knife and not purchasing anything from them. I wanted to know how the knife felt in my hand before laying out the bucks and for that priviledge, I payed a premium. Got to say the guy that runs the store is a really nice guy and I have been in there more times that I walked out without spending a penny than when I bought something.

If he doesn't stay in business, I will not have a place to try on a new model.

Eventho I LOVE my Spyderco serrated (Massad) Ayoob, I traded an excellent Spyderco combo-edge Chinook for it, and lately I've noticed folks buying "Ayoobs" for $45, where Chinooks are still selling for $100 or more...:(.

I have to agree. I sometimes do the same thing. Also, the guy at the store is probably going to be more supportive if you hav a problem.

After reading your replies I feel better :)

After thinking about it I can see were it will probly happen again.
What's a knife nut to do?

There are a couple knives I think I got a preaty good deal on. I guess they will have to off set my knives that I paid to much for ;)

Thanks

If I'm going to buy a knife, I just go to the cutlery and get it. Once I get it, I don't check the price of the same knife online. The way I see it, if I bought it for whatever price, I think it's worth it so there's no sense in making myself feel like an idiot by purposely looking for a cheaper price online, which you're bound to find.

I don't order stuff online unless I have to because if there's a problem with anything (not just knives), it's easier to take it back to the store and return it or let them deal with it than to ship it back to where you ordered it from.

Yeah, I paid about $18 more for a CRKT M-16 at a knife store than I could have got it a month later at a gun and knife show. I wanted it then, and got it then. The gun and knife show doesn't have shipping, but it does have parking and admission fees. I still could have saved a little after all that, but so what? I had the knife when I wanted it (and still got a pretty cool knife at the gun show:) ).

We've all "been there and done that", to qoute the famous expression. Take my experience, for example.

In April of 2001, I purchased a stainless steel Maxam survival knife from a seller on e-Bay for $40.00, thinking I'd gotten a deal. Yet only a month later I came across another auction for the exact same model (albeit unmarked) for only $6.99! Well, needless to say I bought that one too ~ if only to have yet another "so what" knife and the satisfaction of having purchased it at a cheaper price.

On another occasion, I paid over $200.00 for a reproduction cavalry saber only to log onto the company website the following evening and see it "on sale" for $150! (Talk about pulling your hair out! LOL)

On the plus side though, the sword is absolutely gorgeous. :D

this is so true, you'll be looking and looking for a good deal and right after you finally buy the knife you'll find it for cheaper

how 'bout this,

I found a specific Tom Mayo TNT that I really, really, really want. Not only would I be willing to overpay, I offered to, but the owner doesn't want to sell it. I can't blame him, I wouldn't either. for now all I can do is hope to overpay.

My Winchester Wharncliffe whittler - Bluegrass kindly offered me a first-time buyer's discount of 20%. Great, I ordered it and when I got the credit card statement I found that their "shipping and handling" ate up a good portion of the 20% I saved. Oh well, at least it's a really nice slipjoint.

I pay too much for all of my knives, there are only 2 or 3 places in england that have a decent selection and of course because there is little competition so the prices are high, for example, leatherman wave 90GBP (about 130 USD) fallkniven A1 110 GBP (about 155 USD) small CRKT c/k pro 75 GBP (about 105 USD) and the list goes on...

Sounds to me as though you should order off the Internet or else have an American friend purchase the tools and mail them to you. Or is that now illegal in England?

I may not be English, but I sure do miss Margaret Thatcher.
