Zipper? They are real handy! Good luck with your purchase!
Yeah, but, again, who REALLY uses that "gut hook" except for Darryl in his line of work?
I got a riding brother of mine that works at a butcher shop a Zip for a gift as he had been packing a zipper-knock-off for quite awhile. When I asked him if he ever used the gut-hook, he said "no". So, I remain a ponderin' Goose.

So here is my 2 cents on the subject. I don't like most gut hook knives because the angle of the hook is just not right and will get fouled with hair. They are also hard to sharpen (at least for this DA who always has a hard time getting a good edge). I have helped a few first time hunters field dress their first deer with an assortment of current gut hook knives and they all got fouled with hair.
I only have two gut hook knives, an old Colt serengeti skinner and a crappy S&W field dressing kit. The Colt gut hook works well as long as the hook is sharp (but it will only stay sharp for 2 deer
) the S&W will not make a cut more than 1" or 2" before it gets clogged with hair
. I have also used a Wyoming knife, the ones with a razor blade they also don't last long
and are not Ergo at all (sore wrist fast). The best gut opening blade I have is a old Browning folder that has a round non-sharpened tip, this slips right under the skin and has a lot of blade so it stays sharp a long time. These are what I opened the gut with and would do my hide peeling with an old 103
.
Remember I was not a buck only guy until Last year. Now this year I'll be taking a few new knives to try out. A new 119, a new 279, a tin can 110, and an old 191 (vanguard) bought cheap off ebay (if I only knew what was going to happen to me next........
) . I'll post some pic's of my old field knives and my new field knives in a little while.
